Is Food Recalling Your Name?Anyone who has ever experienced salmonella or E. coli from contaminated food can probably describe all too well the resulting nightmare of stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. That's why you need to keep abreast of recall announcements. In 1998, reserachers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study with alarming results. They checked if consumers listened to a recall announced by Schwan's, an ice cream maker, after tests showed that salmonella had inadvertently tainted its product and had alreayd sickened an estimated 224,000 people. The study found most customers had heard the warning, but 31 percent of them still thought their ice cream was OK to eat. When you hear a recall announcement, check your refrigerator or freezer for the product. If you have it, return it for a refund or throw it out! Source: ehealth Fall 1999
