A New Dietary PyramidThis food pyramid, adapted from one developed by Harvard nutrition researcher Walter Willett, M.D., is consistent with the Institute of Medicine's new dietary guidelines. Unlike the government's official dietary pyramid, however, this pyramid distinguishes between healthful and unhealthful carbohydrates and fats: It puts whole-grain foods and vegetable oils at or near the base, while relegating animal fats as well as carbs from refined foods to the top.
